It is consciousness room in a hospital in Egypt. She is six or seven year old girl. She comes to consciousness from anesthetic and feels unbearable pain. Her mother is happy and so all who surround her and do not feel her pain. Her sister is on the other bed and does not utter a word.

Still the girl does not understand what is going on or what happened. The mother and grandmother are from countryside but live in Cairo and still follow the tribal traditions. The father is a simple man, from Upper Egypt and support the mother and grandmother’s idea.

It is 1 or 2 am, the girl called the so-called her mother telling her that she is bleeding. The mother saw the blood and shouted “Help, help”. The girl is bleeding and crying and does not understand what is happening; why she is here in the hospital and what is that bleeding! The mother is terrified and the nurses cannot do anything. One of the nurses said that she is undergone bleeding and the stitches disconnected. They begin to inject her to stop the bleeding, but in vain. The doctor came and said she has blood liquidity which has caused the bleeding and she should undergo another operation. The girl is skinny and just was undergone an operation, the physician said we cannot do another operation and give her anesthetic for the second time.

The doctor decided to make the other operation without anesthetic. Four nurses were there catching the girl from her legs and arms for the operation. The girl fully feels everything, and because of the severe pain and crying, she decided to hate her mother and her life. It is a punishment which she still suffers from till now.

The girl is now 32 years old. She is writing this story while studying her Masters in human rights in foreign country that respects her rights as a female. The girl is frightened from whatever a female is, in addition to fearing from marriage which her mother insists on. This time the girl resists and refuses. She still resists to protect her third sister from this crime. This girl is successful in her social relations and decides to work in human’s rights, especially women’s rights field in order to prevent this severe crime. But she still frightens from all around us and from marriage, yet she laughs and helps all who needs her help and aid.

“Have mercy upon your girls. I still feel physical pain which repeats with the period. We are obliged to live in ignorant society which sees girl as shame disregarding how much she is respectful, educated or religious. Girls are still buried alive by such practices like FGM, harassment and obliged marriage.”

I do not think that cutting this part will protect a girl from sexual deviation.

We used hot water and antiseptic for a week to urinate naturally and bear the severe pain. I am now 32 years old and terrified to have a relationship with a man.

These are the memories accompanies the crime without exaggeration, and still there are other memories that cannot be described. I still cannot forgive my mother for the physical and psychological pain that I still feel till today.

For each mother, your girl is beautiful and you can teach her how to protect herself by bringing up and loving her and making her love herself as a female, as full human, not a human who needs to be perfect by cutting part of his body. The physical and moral wound continues.

My mother does not know that I am studying in another country. I told her that I am working in another governorate and to believe me, I get a vacation from one time to another.

Please for me and for each circumcised girl, I hope that each parent will have mercy upon their girls and protect them from permanent torture.
